Volunteer Appreciation Luau

On October 25, 2025, our club traded torque wrenches for tiki torches at the Catamaran Resort and Hotel on Mission Beach for a Volunteer Appreciation Event that shifted everyone into cruise mode. With palm trees instead of pit lanes, ocean breezes, beautiful Mission Bay in the background, and a full-throttle Hawaiian theme, it didn’t take long for everyone to slip into island mode.

The afternoon kicked off with tropical cocktails; Mai Tais flowed freely, helping set lap records on the way back to the bar. A delicious Hawaiian buffet featuring Kalua Pig, Lomi Lomi Salmon, Huli Huli Chicken, and traditional accompaniments kept everyone fueled and happy. Consider it premium-grade nourishment.

The afternoon’s headline act was a traditional Polynesian dance performance featuring male and female dancers. Things really redlined when several club members were invited on stage to try their own moves. While form may have varied, confidence was clearly in Sport Plus mode—and the crowd loved every second. Modesty prevents me from identifying the most talented, but all who gave it a go proved once again that it’s not just the cars, it’s the people.

No great event is complete without prizes, and the raffle delivered, with model Porsches and gift certificates going to lucky winners (proof that good things happen when you show up). Most importantly, the afternoon was about saying “thank you” to the volunteers who keep our club running smoother than a well-tuned flat six. Mahalo for all you do—we couldn’t do it without you, and we promise to keep the good times rolling.
