Cars & Conversations
AUGUST
Driving over the Coronado Bridge is always a treat, especially on a beautiful August morning and especially when you are in a Porsche! The line of cars caught the sun peeking out from the fog and it was a sight to behold…sleek machines purring and accelerating in anticipation of friends, fun, and coffee. The parking wasn’t perfect, a few stray vehicles managed to intersperse themselves among our beauties but the more the merrier I always say. It was a perfect day to live the American dream in San Diego, California. No wonder our region is one of the largest in the nation. The sun, the beach, the ocean, the boats, and, of course, the cars! But it is not just about the cars, it’s about the people!
AUGUST PART 2
How lucky are we? Two Cars and Conversations in one month! On August 31, we spent another beautiful morning with our beautiful Porsches and our beautiful friends. Once again we had a few problems parking as the lot filled up with eager beach goers. What a contrast to the last time we were at Belmont Park which was cold and wet and empty. This time the air was filled with the sounds of laughter and the smell of sunscreen. Oh… and of course, coffee and donuts.
The highlight for the month was personalized license plates and they were so much fun to see. Some were easy to figure out. Some had long complicated stories. They all showed pride of ownership. Was yours there? Here are just a few: 85 ROW, 911EYES, ALESMTH, QUICKVW, LOOKISM, PSP, FUN4TPC, DNT LFT, DUGS 73E, 914SIXX, 8K RDLN, 954X, KCKDNYO (hint: KCKD_ N_ YO), 9-OG, QUERIDO, GEMRIDE, HAHAHO, 911 X, TRBOLOK, 911 CBAD, J9I1M1S, AZUL911, PMS11, CHEKSIX, NOSUB2T, CU DREAM, PILI D, GA DB. Sorry if I missed your plate but we all had a great time!!
SEPTEMBER
September brings warm days, cooler nights, and fewer tourists in the San Diego region. There was, however, just as many people at Dog Beach in Pacific Beach on the last Sunday of September 2025. Plus, there were plenty of dogs! As the dogs frolicked on the grass, the sand and in the water, we tried to park well over 50 cars in a small area that we staked out for our monthly Cars and Conversation. We eventually had to line up cars on the side of the aisle. This did have one advantage in that no one dare to go down that aisle, especially after the State Ranger parked his truck to help and block the traffic.
Our beautiful vehicles made quite the impression on everyone who walked by. Even the surfers, who are out to catch the big waves stirred up by the storm in the Pacific, smiled and greeted us. They understood that we were fellow thrill seekers; that our vehicles, like their surfboards, represented speed and beauty. The dogs, on the other hand, couldn’t care less.
The conversation always flows unabated amongst the lovers of all things Porsche. Everyone has their favorite type of car so we see everything from vintage 356s to brand new 911 GT4RSs. This month’s highlighted vehicle was 996 and 986 models. They received reserved parking spaces upfront and felt very much at home with all the other models represented.
As we have come to expect from Richard Trang and his family, there was plenty of coffee and donuts to tide us over until lunch. After everyone gathered together, Richard highlighted our upcoming events and introduced our sponsor, TintWorld of Miramar. Then with great reluctance, everyone started to think about returning to their normal Sunday activities. We carefully juggled the cars around and slowly went on our way. A few remained with their dogs to enjoy the beach.
Next month, much to my dismay, the Cars and Conversation will be the same day as the tour. Whichever activity you choose, you are guaranteed a wonderful time because remember, it’s not just about the cars, it’s about the people.
