The Porsche Club of America is about having fun. Having fun with and getting to know people with similar interests, particularly our interest in fine German automobiles. "It's not the cars, it's the people." I don't know who first coined this phrase, but it is used frequently in our club. No where is this more true than in San Diego Region's social program. We typically hold around 30 social events a year.

Our "Last Tuesday" socials are a great way to get to know your fellow club members and especially to welcome new members. These are "free-form" events with no set agenda or set activities that occur on the last Tuesday night of each month. They are held at a different location every month, usually at a popular restaurant or neighborhood bar, in various places around the county. They are scheduled from 6 to 9 PM, however, you can arrive and leave as you like. There are no rules, just stop in for a drink or stay for dinner, the goal is to socialize and have fun!

In addition to these 12 events, we have many other social events, many of which have more involved structure and planning. A very popular annual event is our Progressive Dinner. This is a catered dinner that takes place at 3 members homes. Each house is the setting for one course of our meal. Not only do you get to party with your favorite Porsche people, but you also get the opportunity to see a few of their homes as well as a couple of driving tours while going between them.

Speaking of driving tours during social events, another favorite annual event is our Mystery Weekend. As the name implies, everything about this event is a mystery, a surprise. It is an overnight event, leaving on Saturday morning and returning late Sunday afternoon. Where it takes you, nobody knows, but you are sure to have a great time, exploring Southern California with a group of Porsche driving enthusiasts.

Many of our events are on a smaller scale than those mentioned so far. Potlucks are very popular, whether held in someone's house or on the beach. We have also organized tours at a local brewery or winery tours to Temecula; attended the numerous car shows (or other festivals) around the
county; hikes and picnics in our local wilderness; Drive-In movie events; pool parties; pancake breakfasts; and, of course, grand banquets.

Our annual Installation Dinner and Charity banquet is our biggest banquet of them all. It takes place every January and is an evening of celebration, congratulating all the volunteers for the successes of the previous year and showing our appreciation for those who have agreed to help out in the new year. During this event we also hold our largest individual fund raiser for the year, our silent auction, which benefits San Diego Children's Hospital (and any other charities the Region may choose). This is a great evening of dining, dancing and generosity.

As you can see, San Diego Region loves to get together and have a great time. With such a wide variety of activities, we have something for everyone, including many family oriented events. However, there is always room for new ideas. If you like to throw a party, all it takes for a successful social event is for someone to have an idea and volunteer to organize the event. If you have a great idea, we'd love to put it on the calendar; contact a board member now and let them know. Please come on out and join us!
