Charity Report Congratulations San Diego Region! Because of your tremendous support of charity and community service efforts, the San Diego Region has been awarded the National Public Service Award for 2003!
This national PCA recognition is awarded annually at the Porsche Parade, and for the second time in the plast three years in a row, the honors have gone to PCASDR. This is something to be quite proud of, as this award is not based on monies raised as much as it is based on member participation in both charity and community service events. With Rocky Kuonen heading up our Adopt-a-Highway program organizing frequent highway clean-up events, as well as the 2003 Charity team of Rich Caccese, Kenyon Blower, Trevor Myrus, and Annette Linares, myself organizing frequent charity events, San Diego Region members had a wealth of opportunities for members to participate, donate, in and really give back to the San Diego community, and boy did we! Let’s take a look back…
We had 50/50 raffles, an “Other Car Concours”, the wine tasting at the home of Paul and Ruth Young, and the annual Christmas toy drive all supporting our primary charity, Children’s Hospital of San Diego. We also could not accomplish all that we have for Children’s Hospital without our friends at Pioneer Centres. The team at Pioneer Centres graciously donates $100 to Children’s Hospital for every car they sell, and for 2003, their contribution totaled $38,900!
San Diego Region also had a group of 17 region members team up for the ultimate sleepover, participating in the 24 hour American Cancer Society Relay for Life. This relay team, headed up by Lewis Wise, raised $3,767 for the American Cancer Society.
In response to the devastating San Diego wildfires that October, it was decided that half of the proceeds from our annual charity auction at the Installation Dinner would be split equally between San Diego Children’s Hospital and the other half would be donated to the Julian Cuyamaca Firefighter Relief Fund. This allowed us to donate $6995 to help some very dedicated volunteer firefighters who lost their own homes while fighting to save the homes of others.
SDR also sponsored a golf course hole at the Officer Donna Mauzy Memorial Golf Tournament, an event raising funds for families of fallen police officers.
During one of our tours last year, we also made a donation to the Bell Garden Farms, a non-profit educational center.
Whew, what a busy year it was last year! On behalf of the entire 2003 charity team, I wish to express our heartfelt thanks for your support to make 2003 such a banner year!
So, what do we have planned for this year, you ask? Just wait and see!
Once again, congratulations and our warmest thanks to you, PCASDR, for continuing to support our charity and community service efforts!
