PCA-SDR Fall Wine Country Tour

October 21, 2017 @ 7:00 am - October 29, 2017 @ 5:00 pm UTC-8

| $2699

Looking for an unforgettable journey of the best California countryside? Join the San Diego Region of the Porsche Club of America as we take a week long tour of the best wine country in America: Sonoma and Napa counties.  We will caravan through some of the most beautiful roads in the state as we travel to and from wine country, followed by terrific driving tours and other adventures of all kinds during our stay.  It’s been more than 10 years since we’ve toured to Northern CA wine country, so it’s time to do it again!

The tour will begin on Saturday, October 21, 2017.  We will tour per the schedule below to finish on Sunday, October 29, 2017.  Lodging for all 8 nights is included and as well as four formal dinners and three lunches along with a tour of Hearst Castle.  For food not included in the cost of admission, there will be numerous opportunities for breakfast, lunch, and dinner spots each day. Go by yourselves or join together with friends old and new. The choice is up to you. Some of the best dining in the country will be in the area, numerous fantastic options, both known and unknown. Take your pick based on your preference and your budget. We have worked hard to charge just enough to cover the costs of the hotels and included meals (most meals are during the travel days, there and back) while still providing you with time to explore new discoveries or visit old favorites.  FYI: This time of year is considered “high season” in wine country, so planning this adventure was quite the challenge.  We believe you will find it an amazing trip, so it will be well worth the effort!

Here’s how the week will flow:

Day 1/Saturday: Journey to San Simeon, CA We will meet at Hoehn Porsche in Carlsbad, CA. Once everyone has arrived, we will be on our way north. Once we get through LA and into the mountains, we will stop for our first group meal, lunch.  We will then continue driving some beautiful mountain roads, after which we will drop into the valley for a totally different kind of gorgeous scenery.  We will enjoy this wonderful afternoon drive on seldom used roads as we wind our way northwest to Cambria, for a group dinner.  After dinner we will do the fabulous and rare twilight tour of Hearst Castle, stopping for the night in San Simeon.

Day 2/Sunday: Journey to Santa Rosa.  We leave San Simeon, driving north on the majestic Highway 1 coastal drive.  We will pass Monterey and stop for a group lunch in Santa Cruz; then drive through the Bay area to Santa Rosa.   We will have three nights in Santa Rosa.

Day 3-5/Monday-Wednesday: Santa Rosa Siesta. We will spend 2-3 days in the Santa Rosa area.  This lovely little town is central to the following terrific wine appellations:  Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Russian River Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Knights Valley and Anderson Valley. If you can’t find a wine you like here, then they just don’t make it.  In addition to wine, you will find Redwoods forest — terrific for hiking or catching a zip line tour; phenomenal Pacific coastline parks, small towns to explore, and terrific restaurants too.  Tuesday night will be our second group dinner, where we can come together to exchange stories of all our discoveries and adventures. Every day there will be an optional driving tour in the morning.  Come along with the gang or skip it to sleep in or go to the spa.  Whether you choose to explore the local roads or not, afternoons will be free for wine tasting or whatever interests you!

Day 5-7/Wednesday-Friday: Discover Napa. Wednesday night we will check into our hotel in the city of Napa for another three nights. This gives you 2-3 days in the Napa valley, the most famous and arguably the best wine country in all of the USA.  The Carneros wine appellation is also right next door, and the delightful town of Sonoma isn’t too far either. World class restaurants, world famous vineyards and amazing views await you here!  We will continue with optional driving tours each morning, followed by free afternoons.  Thursday will be another group dinner.

Day  8/Saturday: The Journey home begins. All good things must come to an end, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop!  Today we head south by a different, inland route.  Another terrific road through beautiful country, but much less traveled than Highway 1.  Our group lunch will be a picnic in the park, halfway back to San Luis Obispo; where we will have our final group meal and spend the last night of the trip.

Day 9/Sunday: Destination-San Diego. Leave San Luis Obispo for the final leg of the journey home at your leisure. Sleep in or depart at dawn; by yourself or with the group; the choice is up to you.

For those of you interested in the most famous of the restaurants in the area (such as The French Laundry), don’t forget to make your reservations far in advance. The fall is still considered “high season” so expect them to be busy.  Our free nights are:  Oct 22 & 23 in Santa Rosa,  Oct 25 & 27 in Napa.  And, of course, you are free for lunch all five weekdays, Oct 23-27.
